GIOVANNI VAN BRONCKHORST reckons Rangers are reaping the rewards of his new tactical blueprint as he assessed the impact of wide players in the Ibrox attack.

The Dutchman extended his unbeaten run since replacing Steven Gerrard as manager to eight matches on Saturday as the champions overcame Dundee United.

James Tavernier netted the only goal of the game to move Rangers seven points clear of Old Firm rivals Celtic ahead of their midweek trip to face St Mirren.

Lyon are the only team to have denied Van Bronckhorst's side victory in recent weeks as the 46-year-old has made an impressive start to his Light Blues reign.

Rangers will round off the first half of the campaign with fixtures against St Mirren, Aberdeen and Celtic before the Premiership is halted for the winter break.

And Van Bronckhorst is encouraged by the manner in which his squad have adapted to his new coaching philosophy and looked more threatening as a result of his two wingers approach.

He said: "It's gone really well for me at Rangers. I am very happy with it, especially for the players and the fans.

"Of course it was hard for the players due to the transition of a new manager because Steven Gerrard went to Aston Villa and there were new coaches for the group too.

"They have handled it well and I am very pleased about it. There is fun and energy around the squad and the results have been going well too.

"Gerrard did an excellent job, but I am a manager with a different system. I try and play down the flanks with wingers and a No.10.

"So I would say the biggest change since I came in is that we have started playing with out-and-out wingers because we have the players with those qualities to do that. And I have to say that so far it has worked out very well."
