IT has already been a busy January for Rangers with Giovanni van Bronckhorst aiming to make his stamp during his first transfer window in charge of the club.

The Ibrox outfit have already brought in attacker James Sands from New York City and they look set to add a replacement for Nathan Patterson after he exited the club for Everton earlier this week.

A number of Rangers stars also look set to join Patterson out the exit door this month with the club ruling them as surplus to requirement.

Here we take a look at the players who could be on their way out of Ibrox before the month is out...

Jermain Defoe

The Herald:

The experienced Englishman has found game time hard to come by this season both under the leadership of Steven Gerrard and Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

Gerrard promoted Defoe to his coaching staff in a specialist striker role, but he has since been removed after Van Bronckhorst took over and implemented his own backroom team.

The former Spurs and England striker has been in the Sky Sports studio on punditry duties lately and that could be a sign of things to come.

At the age of 39, it remains to be seen whether he will fancy another club if ushered out the Ibrox door this January.

Jack Simpson

The Herald:

It has already been widely reported that Simpson looks set to leave Glasgow this transfer window after a short stint with Rangers.

The 25-year-old has failed to take advantage of injuries in the backline recently with Van Bronckhorst opting for Calvin Bassey as a replacement for Leon Balogun and Filip Helander.

Simpson was brought in last season from Bournemouth and he now looks set for a Championship return with several clubs interested.

Former Rangers boss Mark Warburton has been credited with an interest as he looks to bolster his defensive options at Queens Park Rangers.

Brandon Barker

The Herald:

The former Manchester City winger has had plenty of chances since arriving at Ibrox in 2019, but he has never really cemented down a spot in the starting XI.

Barker hasn't had a sniff under Giovanni van Bronckhorst and spent last season under Steven Gerrard out on loan at Oxford United.

There is no doubt that Barker has talent and he will be sure to snap up a club with ease if offloaded this month.

John Lundstram

The Herald:

The former Sheffield United man is another who is relatively fresh into Rangers after moving to the club on a free transfer last year.

To have the opportunity of working with former boss Gerrard was a big part of the move and you have to think his recent exit will play a part in Lundstram exiting soon.

The Englishman has never really produced a consistent run of performances for Rangers despite being given plenty of game time.

He was rated as a £10million player when he moved to Scotland, but he simply hasn't shown the worth of that kind of price tag. A move back to England will surely be on the cards.

Kai Kennedy

The Herald:

More of a move for the future this one but Kai Kennedy looks set to move on from Ibrox this month in another loan deal.

He spent the first part of this season at Dunfermline before being recalled this month.

Derek McInnes has been linked with a loan move for the 19-year-old after he took over the reins at Kilmarnock.
