JERMAIN DEFOE has penned an emotional farewell to Rangers after he was today released by the club.
The Englishman, 39, joined up with old international team-mate Steven Gerrard at Ibrox three-years-ago.
He made 74 appearances during that time, and bagged an impressive 32 goals.
He initially joined on loan from Bournemouth, before that deal was made a permanent one.
Back in the January of 2019, he famously said he was coming to Scotland to win the league title with the club.
And last season he played his part in Rangers' famous 55th league triumph.
And that is something the veteran says he "will simply never forget".
He wrote on social media: "From the moment I arrived at Ibrox in January 2018, I was blown away by the sheer magnitude of Rangers Football Club.
"There are no many people to thank. From team-mates, coaches and staff, to the Fans who have given me so much love and support from the very First day.
"Winning my first ever league title last season was one of my career highlights, and making it 55 title wins at this Football club makes it even more special. A season I will simply never Forget and memories I will cherish Forever.
"Rangers Football Club will forever hold a special place in my heart. Thank you For everything, and good luck For the rest of the season."
With Defoe departing the club, Rangers have since recalled Cedric Itten from his loan spell in the Bundesliga.
He score twice in 12 appearances for Greuther Furth.
The Swiss attacker will re-join the first team under Giovanni van Bronckhorst to compete with Alfredo Morelos and Fashion Sakala for the main forward positions.
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
