RANGERS have confirmed that midfielder Stephen Kelly has joined Salford City on-loan until the end of the season.

A graduate of the Rangers academy, the 21-year-old made his senior debut in September 2018 against Ayr United in the Scottish League Cup Quarter-Final.

He would go on to score five goals in 27 appearances for Ayr in the Scottish Championship the following season, and spent last year with Ross County in the Scottish Premiership.

After making the move, Kelly said: “I’m delighted to be here, excited as well. It’s a unique club and I’m really looking forward to it.

“I had a few loan spells in Scotland but obviously it’s different coming down to England. It’s a very tough league, physical and a good level so I’m looking forward to it.

“I think it’ll be a different challenge yeah, but obviously the Club has got big ambitions, big pressure, I want to help the Club get to where they want to go as much as possible, and get back out playing and showing what I can do.

“The manager just wants me to come and play, work with the team here and try and play passes, get on the ball and try and make things happen as much as I can.”

After making his first signing of the January window, Gary Bowyer commented:

“We’re absolutely delighted to get Stephen over the line, a massive thank you to Rangers for allowing us to loan him.

“We’re looking forward to working with him and the qualities he will bring to the team; he’s got a good range of passing, he’s a competitor who wants to win and we can’t wait to get started with him.”
