FORMER Scotland striker Alan Brazil was quick to laugh off Ange Postecoglou's appointment at Celtic back in June 2021.
It's now the Australian manager who is having the last laugh though.
The Celtic-daft talkSPORT breakfast show host was less than impressed by the club's decision to draft in the Aussie to replace Neil Lennon last summer.
The move to bring in Postecoglou came after a failed two-month chase for Eddie Howe, who would reject Celtic's offer in the end.
At the time, the Celtic gaffer's name was scarcely known on British shores.
And speaking at the time, Brazil was dismissive of the move.
On air live with Ally McCoist, head said at the time: “I am not sure I want to read this out if I am honest. Is this a wind-up?
“Breaking news coming out of Scotland here as Celtic have applied for exemption with Uefa for Yokohama Marinos boss, what is it Poste-coo-gloo (Postecoglou) to manage in Europe.
“He does not hold the required UEFA pro-licence. Aww this has got to be a wind-up."
McCoist: "What do you think?"
Brazil: “Aww he will be a great manager. Where do they come up with these guys from?”
Now, featuring on 'The Front Bar' on Aussie TV, Postecoglou was finally able to respond to the clip, as he was left in stiches listening to it back.
A member of the panel said: “That is Alan Brazil who has played for Scotland and since then he has eaten humble pie, quite a bit of it."
A second host added: “It must be quite fun running into those sort of guys, you have proven them wrong, they’ve changed their tune completely and now, not only them but the fans themselves are signing your praises."
They then played a clip of the Celtic support chanting about the Aussie before chat show host 2 added: "That is just awesome, for someone who got to Glasgow in May, and had to enter a Witness Protection Scheme.
"You must feel a great sense of elation when that is the reaction from the rank and file."
Postecoglou: “Yeah, there is a couple of things there Mick.
“Firstly, before I even got the job they told me that when you become Celtic manager half of Glasgow loves you and the other half absolutely hates you. I just said that is only if I’m successful.”
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
