KENNY DALGLISH has slammed the shameful scenes that marred the Old Firm derby as glass bottles were launched onto the pitch.

The second half was delayed at Ibrox when a smashed bottle was cleared from the penalty area while Celtic physio Danny Friel required stitches after being struck by a missile from the stands.

Dalglish blasted the shocking incidents but warned against tarring all fans with the same brush as he insisted: “Scotland is better than that”.

Speaking on the derby incidents, he said: “Nobody needs it. It doesn’t matter who is playing – if there’s 200 at the game it doesn’t matter. You don’t do it.

“You’ve got to be able to behave when you go to the matches – that’s for everybody.

“It’s hard if you’re losing but it’s even harder if you’re locked up and behind bars.

“It’s 50,000 people at a game. It’s not right but it’s still unfair on the other people to be classed in the same breath.”

Celtic went on to claim victory in the heated derby clash at Ibrox with Tom Rogic and Cameron Carter-Vickers netting after Aaron Ramsey’s opener after three minutes.

But reaction to the match – just two weeks out from the Hampden Scottish Cup semi-final meeting between the sides on Sunday – has been dominated by the sour fan incidents.
For Dalglish it’s an issue that needs prompt action with the Celtic and Rangers fixtures broadcast around the globe.

He added: “One of their own players could’ve fell on that thing, they were attacking that goal, or even if they’re defending it. It’s not right.

“It’s got to be corrected, but it shouldn’t be publicised either because Scotland is better than that.

“The Scottish nation is better than that and the football teams are better than that. On the whole and in the main, the fans are better than that.”
