LUKE CROSBIE will be hoping that good things really do come in threes. The 24-year-old flanker celebrated his return to fitness after being out since January with a lower limb injury yesterday, at the same time as it was announced that he had agreed a new contract with Edinburgh (which will keep him at the club for the now customary undisclosed length of time), so the perfect end to this week would be helping his team to victory over Bath in Saturday night's European Challenge Cup round of 16 clash at the DAM Health Stadium.

After being named last year’s Player of the Season by the club and then carrying that form into the current campaign to earn his first full Scotland cap against Tonga in October, Crosbie is clearly a player with a lot going for him. But a combination of injury and fierce competition for places at club level means that he still hasn’t fully reached his potential.

However, he is in no doubt that Edinburgh is the best place for him to be, especially after a change of coach last summer brought new impetus to the side.

“It was obviously frustrating to be injured earlier this season but that’s the sport we play and it’s brilliant to be back involved now,” he said. “It’s a really important part of the season with big games coming up and I’m looking forward to getting back out there and playing with my teammates.

“Obviously, there were changes at the start of the season and the way results have gone has been great for us,” he added. “It’s given us a real momentum shift and we’re just looking to kick-on now. The energy around the club has been great, from the top staff down to the players, so it’s a great place to be at the moment and I’m just looking forward to seeing how it progresses.

“We’re confident we have the ability to beat Bath this weekend. They are a good side, but we know with the squad we’ve got, and the way that we’re training and playing, that we can definitely do it in these big games.”

“I feel great, I’m raring to go,” he concluded. “Just looking forward to getting out there and getting stuck in – doing what I do in terms of getting the head down and putting work in for the boys around me.”
