GARY LINEKER has revealed he was left "a bit scared" after attending derby matches between Celtic and Rangers.

The former striker turned host attended a few matches between the Glasgow rivals when the BBC held broadcast rights over Scottish fixtures.

And he admitted he was left feeling scared as he commented on the "hatred" between the sets of fans of either club.

Speaking on the Match of the Day Podcast, Lineker said: “I’ve done a few.

"There was a period where we had the rights; we televised about three or four of them at both grounds.

“Blimey. When you talk about hatred there, that is another level.

“I was a bit scared.

“The Rangers vs Celtic match is something else.”

Guest Micah Richards revealed he had also sampled the atmosphere as he attended a derby clash at Celtic Park.

But he insisted he'd never go again as he offered his take on the "incredible" noise created by supporters at the powderkeg fixture.

Richards said: “Once. Never again. Forget that.

“[I went to] Celtic.

"I’ve never heard a noise like it. It’s incredible.”

Newcastle legend Alan Shearer, who also featured on the podcast, branded the atmosphere in the stands as "ferocious" as he opened up on his experience at the derby clashes.

He said: “I’ve been to a lot of these games, but that Glasgow Derby is something else.

“My god – it is ferocious at both grounds, at Celtic and Rangers.

"It’s proper hatred. It’s something different up there.”
