AN emotional Ange Postecoglou spoke of his pride in his Celtic players after they clinched the Premiership title with a draw against Dundee United at Tannadice, and promised the Celtic supporters that this is just the start for his team.
Postecoglou was overwhelmed as his men finally made their title win official, a Dylan Levitt equaliser for United after Giorgos Giakoumakis had given Celtic the lead taking none of the shine off his side’s triumph.
And when asked if there was more to come from Celtic next season, Postecoglou said: “Definitely but I’ve said this year we had to do a lot of work. Irrespective of what happened the role this year was to be better next year.
“We laid pretty strong foundations. We’ve shown resilience, character and strong mentality to overcome obstacles. Those things you can only learn by going through it.
“Now the pleasing thing is this group getting rewards and you stand a bit taller next season. You want to be better but you also know you stood up when it mattered most.
“I wanted the players to enjoy it. It’s not easy to do what they’ve done and perform. There’s such a strong bond as a group. We never shy away or make excuses or allowances for anything. To keep going.
“It’s their moment, they’re the ones who accomplished this task. I wanted them to enjoy it and understand what they’d achieved.
“It’s fair to say it’s overwhelming – I’m just really proud of the players and staff. We started so far back in terms of starting point so to end up where we are is an unbelievable achievement.”
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
