OLIVER GLASNER insists Rangers will be Europa League favourites in Seville after conquering Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig to reach the final.

The Light Blues kicked off their knock-out campaign with a memorable win over Dortmund as one of the teams to beat in the tournament were sent crashing out at the first hurdle.

Dramatic victories over Red Star Belgrade and Braga followed as Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side progressed to the semi-finals and gave supporters a reason to dream of European glory.

Those thoughts were only enhanced when a narrow defeat away to Leipzig was the precursor to a historic night at Ibrox as a 3-1 win clinched a final berth.

Rangers are now aiming to follow in the footsteps of the Barcelona Bears and become only the second team to bring European silverware back to Govan.

Frankfurt have already tasted success in Spain this season after seeing off Real Betis and Barcelona on their way to the last four and then beating West Ham United to book their final spot.

But Glasner believes Rangers’ record and their results against his German counterparts marks them out as the ones to beat at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan this evening.

Glasner said: “You can make these sorts of comparisons. If you win against the second and fourth of the Bundesliga then you are the favourite.

“We are 11th in the Bundesliga so maybe that is the calculation but that doesn’t matter. Both teams deserve to play the final.

“We have analysed them and they are a mixture of West Ham and Barcelona.

“You can see the Dutch influence in the way they play and their little triangles but they also have the British mentality.

“Rangers are a team who are very robust and they have the desire to run and chase every time they lose the ball. (James) Tavernier is also top scorer in the Europa League so that shows he runs a lot.

“They always show this readiness to defend but to also go forward.

“They play very fast football so this is how they score a lot of goals.

“Like West Ham they can cross the ball very quickly. They scored like that against Braga and Leipzig.”

Rangers got their first look at the pitch at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan on Tuesday evening as boss Van Bronckhorst joined Tavernier and Ryan Jack for the pre-match media conference.

The Dutchman played down the significance of the soaring Seville temperatures – which could head towards 38 degrees Celsius on Wednesday – after bringing his side to Spain a day earlier than usual to help them acclimatise.

Frankfurt chose not to train at the home of La Liga giants Sevilla as they were put through their paces back at their training base before making the trip to Andalusia.

But Glasner insists his side will be fully prepared for the challenge of facing Rangers as he seeks another Spanish success story to clinch the silverware.

Glasner said: “We are not doing anything secret in training at home.

“I’m trying to think what I will say to the players before the match.

“But, we have spent so many hours together that maybe they don't need anything from me.

“I will be back here for my vacation so I like Spain.

“We have won the first two good games and we come here with a good feeling.

“Spain is a place with fantastic stadiums and great pitches. Everything is perfect for us.”
