RANGERS defender James Maxwell has confirmed his Ibrox exit amid speculation that he could join Partick Thistle.

The 20-year-old failed to break into the first team during his stint at Giovanni van Bronckhorst's team, but he did enjoy successful loan spells with Ayr United and Queen of the South.

Writing on Twitter, he said: "Thank you Rangers FC for everything, met friends for life and had many great experiences.

"Excited to see what's up next."

We told last week that Partick Thistle have been credited with an interest in signing Maxwell.

As a former player, Thistle manager Ian McCall enjoys a strong relationship with Ibrox and has regularly taken youngsters on loan from the Govan club.

He worked with Maxwell during his stint as Ayr United boss before making the move to Thistle.

It has also been reported that Partick are interested in fellow outgoing Rangers man Kai Kennedy.
