Perfect start to decisive Nations League week
THIS was hyped up as a massive week for Scotland, and the national team delivered a huge performance.
Ukraine proved they were no mugs with a comfortable victory over Scotland in the World Cup play-offs over the summer - but it was a different story at Hampden last night.
Scotland wee well on top and more than deserved to take victory which takes Steve Clarke's side top of the Nations League group over Ukraine, Ireland and Armenia.
The result not only restores the belief in the national team - but puts all of the control in the group into the hands of Scotland.
Scotland change of shape works wonders
IT was a major call for Steve Clarke to shift from a back-five to a traditional four-man defence.
But at Hampden it paid off big time with Scotland controlling proceedings for large spells.
The national side were dominant and piled on the pressure picking up countless second balls in attacking positions. It was a vastly improved performance from the dreadful defeat to Ireland and banished the horror memories from Dublin.
It was arguably one of the best performances at Hampden in recent years and gives Clarke some serious thinking to do over his best system going forward.
Returning players prove their worth
MORE than a few eyebrows were raised as Ryan Fraser returned to the Scotland squad.
But the Newcastle winger was instantly forgiven with two assists in his return to action.
The diminutive forward picked out fellow returning player Lyndon Dykes, back from injury, for two headed goals from corners.
Kieran Tierney was also back in action and looked a class act restored to his more familiar left-back position.
Kenny McLean was handed a return with a substitute appearance as the squad depth looked promising despite Scotland being without captain Andy Robertson who misses the camp through injury.
