Craig Gordon 8

Excellent save to deny Artem Dovbyk midway through the first half when the striker was sent through for a one v one. Pulled off a brilliant stop to deny Mykhailo Mudryk early in the second half. Another fine performance from the goalkeeper.

Greg Taylor 6

Out of position early on, allowing Andriy Yarmolenko an excellent opportunity, but somehow the Ukraine winger fluffed his lines from close range. Improved as the game wore on before being subbed off.

Ryan Porteous 7

Thrown in at the deep end for his Scotland debut but the Hibernian centre-half produced an assured performance. He was fortunate that Ukraine didn’t capitalise on a first-half corner where he lost his marker but other than that, he didn’t do all that much wrong. Wonderful tackle in stoppage time to deny a late effort at goal.

Jack Hendry 7

Had to be wary of Mudryk’s runs inside but was always in the right position to nullify the winger’s threat. Another mature display from the centre-back as Scotland weathered the storm.

Aaron Hickey 8

Caught out by Mudryk’s pace early on. Carried a real threat going forward and won a couple of free-kicks in dangerous areas. Was on the receiving end of a few nasty challenges in the first half. Snuffed out numerous long balls forward.

Callum McGregor 7

Another tidy performance from the Celtic captain. Always demanded the ball but struggled to get forward and support the attack.

Ryan Jack 6

Spurned a glorious opportunity on the half-hour mark, spinning away from goal as a corner kick fell in his path, but the midfielder drilled his close-range shot wide of the near post. Was pinned back fairly deep for large spells of the game.

Kenny McLean 6

Didn’t offer too much in a creative sense but was a safe pair of hands in midfield and took very few risks. Worked hard off the ball to track back and support Taylor.

John McGinn 6

Often found himself crowded out when in possession and struggled to get on the ball in the final third. Worked hard off the ball.

Ryan Fraser 6

Drafted into the starting XI after impressing after coming off the bench in Saturday’s 2-1 win over Ireland, the Newcastle winger was lively once again. His deliveries from set-pieces could have been better.

Che Adams 6

Worked tirelessly as the lone striker but didn’t really get the service he needed to have a chance of scoring before being brought off.
