GOOD things come to those who wait, and after a harrowing first seven rounds of this Super6 Championship, Stirling Wolves finally got fair reward for their resilience with a first win of the campaign last night.

They trailed Boroughmuir Bears by 10 points at the break, with the hosts' points having come from a fifth minute Jack Bergin penalty and a converted Joe Jordan try on 16 minutes. And when Wolves prop Callum Norrie was dispossessed in the act of diving over the line later in the first half it looked like another hard-luck story for Ben Cairns’ side was on the cards.

But they bounced back in fine fashion so score four second half tries, to eclipse two more Bergin penalties, the first of which was slotted four minutes after the restart.

Hooker and man-of-the-match Angus Fraser – a first year full-time pro with Glasgow Warriors who has yet to play a competitive game for the pro side – led the Stirling charge by bustling over for the first of those comeback tries on 56 minutes.

Duncan Weir, another Glasgow pro and former Scotland stand-off, showed his class with a fully committed performance, and he converted all four tries.

Wolves kept their foot on the gas with Ryan Southern, captain Marcus Holden and flanker Gregor Hiddleston all crossing before the end to secure the bonus-point win.

This result didn't lift previously winless Wolves off the foot of this 2022 Super6 Championship table. They are still behind Southern Knights on points difference. But it will lift be a huge weight off the squad and departing head coach Cairns’ shoulders, ahead of their final two games of the campaign away to Ayrshire Bulls next Friday night and then away to Southern Knights the following Saturday.

Bears are still on course to finish the regular season in third place but have two tough homes games left against top of the league Watsonians and second-placed Ayrshire Bulls.
