RANGERS were comfortably beaten by Liverpool in the UEFA Youth League this afternoon.

The Reds' under-19s ran out 4-1 winners in the end, as David McCallum's team were comprehensively defeated in the heavy rain on Merseyside.

And there was a familiar face on the scoresheet.

The result means Liverpool top their group, making it three wins from three. Rangers on the other hand suffered their second defeat of the section, meaning they have work to do to progress.

Liverpool were well on top throughout the match, but the opening stages were even enough.

That said, the difference in quality was certainly on show after half-an-hour as the home side took a 2-0 lead after a couple of quickfire goals.

The first came from number number Cannonier who showed superb striking instincts to divert a loose ball into the net.

This propelled the Reds to push for another. Some neat play down the left eventually saw the ball come to Bobby Clark. His effort crashed off the post.

However, ex-Celtic starlet Ben Doak was on hand to take a touch and hit into the empty net. The Scotland youth international certainly seemed to enjoy scoring against the Ibrox club.

Shortly after the break and it was three for Liverpool. An out swinging corner from Corness was met powerfully by Quansah, who headed home from close-range as Liverpool asserted their dominance on Rangers.

The remainder of the half mainly consisted of Liverpool possession, with several other chances either squandered on well-saved by Pazikas.

But with added time on the clock, left-back Luke Chambers, who was great throughout, drove into the box before applying a low finish across the keeper.

Connor Young did score a consolation for the Ibrox club with a nice finish at the near-post.
