GIOVANNI van Bronckhorst insists he’s still “confident and positive” Alfredo Morelos will sign a new Rangers deal but admitted that doesn’t mean it will happen.

The Ibrox boss previously stated his confidence in retaining Morelos past his contract expiring at the end of the season.

And while he re-affirmed his positivity that a deal could be struck, Van Bronckhorst warned it’s not a certainty.

Quizzed on Morelos’ contract situation as he could sign a pre-contract in January, Van Bronckhorst said: “I am very confident and positive but it doesn’t mean it will happen.

“We will see. I am a confident person but for me it is not my decision so it is very difficult for me to say if a new contract will happen.”

Rangers currently have 11 players who have deals expiring at the end of the season, but Van Bronckhorst rebuffed a poser on developments as he insisted Ross Wilson is the man to ask about any contract updates.

“You should ask Ross,” said the Rangers boss. “Ross is speaking with the players and the agents so I think he is best to ask what the situation is.

“You have discussions, contract talks and you have players who might have different ideas of their futures.

“There are a lot of things that are important when you sign new contracts.

“Connor Goldson was one of the players last year who was also uncertain about his future but in the end in the summer he signed a new deal.”

And further questioned on the major possible departures list from Ibrox come the end of the season, he added: “I think when things aren’t going well or you have difficult moments people will talk and pinpoint problems and areas which can be improved.

“I’m not the technical director, but it’s not always the case that what happens is what you want.”
