RANGERS have made an official approach to QPR as club chiefs look to appoint Michael Beale as manager.
The Herald understands club chiefs have gone to the London club with a formal approach for talks with the former Ibrox coach.
Beale has been the front-runner to replace Giovanni van Bronckhorst who was sacked on Monday.
And now he's edged closer to a return to Ibrox with club officials stating their intent formally to the English Championship side.
It's thought Beale is keen to join Rangers and QPR director of football Les Ferdinand previously said the club would not stand in the way of a move back north.
Ibrox officials Stewart Robertson and Ross Wilson were been tasked with overseeing the managerial search and had travelled to London earlier this week.
And it now seems like they're set to land leading candidate Beale with the wheels in motion after an official approach to his current employers.
Highly-rated Beale turned down an approach from Wolves last month to remain at QPR but is widely expected to make a move to Rangers.
He worked under Steven Gerrard as an influential first-team coach and played a major role in the Scottish Premiership winning season in 2020/21.
Beale then followed Gerrard to Aston Villa to take up a coaching post but moved on to go solo in management with QPR.
After a whirlwind five months in the dugout, Beale now appears set for another move to head back to Ibrox in just his second management role.
However, the 42-year-old brings a wealth of experience from coaching roles in England and Brazil.
Beale had first worked as a youth coach at Chelsea before moving to the Liverpool academy set-up.
There he worked as an under-16s coach and progressed through the ranks to become an under-23s coach.
The prospective next Rangers manager then made the huge decision to move to Brazil and work alongside Rogerio Ceni at Sao Paulo.
After six months in South America he returned to Liverpool before first joining Rangers with Gerrard and Gary McAllister.
