Hibs playmaker Aiden McGeady could make his first appearance in over four months in today’s friendly against Raith Rovers.

The vastly experienced Republic of Ireland cap has not played since suffering a recurrence of a knee medial ligament tear in a friendly against Norwich City on July 24.

McGeady put the set-back down to the fact that the problem he suffered at Sunderland last term had probably not healed properly

However, the former Celtic and Everton winger has now returned to training and is expected to feature in this afternoon’s closed doors game at Easter Road against the Championship side.

A clash with League One side Edinburgh City had initially been planned but Hibs confirmed a change of opponent on Tuesday evening.

McGeady has so far only managed four competitive appearances - all coming in the Viaplay Cup, since returning to Scotland last summer.

Johnson is hoping McGeady will be able to build his fitness ahead of a demanding run of fixtures once the domestic action gets back under way.

The Leith side, who have lost six of their last seven Premiership games, take on Rangers next Thursday before then facing Livingston, Celtic and Hearts over the festive period.

The clash with Rovers will also provide Kevin Nisbet a chance to enhance his match fitness after the Scotland striker returned from nine months out with a anterior cruciate ligament tear in the November 26 friendly defeat to Middlesbrough.
