Liverpool defender Calvin Ramsay has detailed his 'frustration' over the injury he sustained at the start of his Anfield career.

The 19-year-old moved to the Merseyside club from Aberdeen during the summer transfer window for a reported £4.2 million fee.

He became a regular in the team under Jim Goodwin last season and despite the Pittodrie club finishing 10th in the league, the Scottish international put on some great displays.

It is fair to say the dream move did not get off to the best start though, as he suffered a stress fracture early into his debut season at Anfield.

"It was very frustrating because obviously I’d just signed for the club," he said.

"I just wanted to come in and get to work and start training and playing.

"But I found out in my medical that I had a stress fracture in my back, and it wasn’t the best news.

"I was out for a couple of months with that, but I just worked hard in the gym every day and tried to get back as soon as I could."

This hard work was rewarded as he made his debut against Derby in the League Cup, playing the whole match.

He also got some Champions League experience, coming on for a three minute cameo against Italian side Napoli.

"It’s an amazing moment – it’s what every youngster wants to do, play in the Champions League and at the highest level possible," he continued.

"But I’m just lucky to have made my debut. My family being there as well was special, so I’m just delighted with that.

"Hopefully. That (a Premier League outing) is the aim now. I just need to keep working hard. This is a good chance to show what I’ve got.

"Hopefully I can make my Premier League debut as well."
