Jim Goodwin insists he is the man to lead Aberdeen forward.
The Pittodrie manager has come under strong pressure in recent weeks after some dismal performances and results. This certainly came to a head on Wednesday night after the latest disaster for the Dons.
Aberdeen were taken apart by Hearts at Tynecastle as Robbie Neilson’s men ran out easy 5-0 winners.
Any manager would come under increased scrutiny for such an outcome – but especially at a club of Aberdeen’s standing.
Embarrassed, disappointed and humiliated. Goodwin felt all of those emotions. However, the Irishman is defiant he will not give up.
Set for a meeting with chairman Dave Cormack, the manager said: “We have tried to clear the air this morning in a player and staff meeting and we are all in agreement that there are lessons to be learned and we have to do that very quickly and make sure we get back to winning way.
“We have regular meetings after every game. Pretty similar to every club and where you analyse where it didn’t go to plan. We are in agreement that we need to defend better. Our defensive record isn’t good enough and that is something we need to get sorted and we need to get it sorted quickly.

“I think we have made a lot of changes on and off the park. We have made great improvements that maybe some people don’t get to see. There is a lot of good work going on behind the scenes but ultimately all of that is in the shadow because the most important thing is results on the pitch.
“I still very much believe that I am the man to take the club forward. I have never shied away from a challenge at any point in my career and I certainly won’t do that now. I love the job that I have got. I am very proud to be the manager of Aberdeen and I am going to fight tooth and nail to get this sorted and get us back to winning ways and give us an opportunity to finish among those European places before the end of the season.”
