Over the moon Darvel manager Mick Kennedy admits his side's incredible win over Aberdeen is a dream for the club - but insists it was no shock.

The tiny sixth-tier outfit from the West of Scotland League was given little hope by bookies and pundits alike despite the Dons poor form of late.

Yet they stunned Scottish football with arguably the biggest shock in the history of the storied competition.

And Kennedy revealed he has been laying the groundwork for the stunning win over the last week, building in his charges the psychological strength to win the day.

He told the BBC: "It's a dream. I said that to the guys in the team talk. It's not only our dream but the whole of the community's dreams too.

"What an occasion for the club. I've believed in these guys and have been drumming it into them all week that they needed to believe and trust one another. That's the sort of ethos and culture we have. Togetherness and love and respect but the most important thing was they believed in one another and that's what we have been driving all week. It's remarkable what you can achieve.

"I said before the game we needed to start well and impose ourselves on the game. We did that and we deserved to go in front. After that we had to show the team spirit and get in the trenches together.

"I believed in this from day one. From the first time I came down here I told the board that we'd build something special, that the town could be proud of, over the next few years. That's what we have done."

The players celebrated with understandable abandon at the end having pulled off the miraculous given the experiential and financial gap between the two sides.

But Kennedy admitted it's his job to burst the bubble and bring them back to reality.

"I need to bring everyone back down to earth unfortunately for training this week for the Arthurlie game on Saturday," he laughed. "Tonight they can enjoy it but tomorrow they need to get back to work and get focused for training on Thursday. But it's a remarkable achievement."
