Zak Rudden has joined St Johnstone on a six-month loan deal.

The striker, 22, has agreed to head to McDiarmid Park until the end of the season in a temporary move from Dundee.

Rudden had been a target for Callum Davidson previously and couldn't pass up a second opportunity to join St Johnstone.

The striker - who will wear the number 16 - is in the squad for St Johnstone to face Motherwell on Wednesday night.

He has played 40 times for Dundee since signing last January - scoring nine goals.

Rudden still has two years left on his Dundee deal having signed from Partick Thistle last year. The striker came through the Rangers youth academy before loan spells with Falkirk and Plymouth.

Commenting on his move, Rudden told the St Johnstone website: “I’m delighted to be here and get the deal over the line. I’m jumping at the chance to play at the top level.

“The conversations I’ve had with the Gaffer have been really positive. Knowing he took interest in me before makes me want to give that extra 20%.

“I got a glimpse of playing top flight football last season and I’m looking forward to the challenge of competing at the highest level again.

“Coming straight into a training session was the best way to get started. It’s a great group of lads and they’ve made me feel welcome as soon as I stepped foot in the door.

“I’m a player who will give everything for the team, I love to get on the end of things and hopefully I’ll be able to get as many goals as I can in the next 6 months.”

A Dundee statement confirmed: "We can confirm that Zak Rudden has joined St. Johnstone on a loan deal until the end of the season.

"Zak joined the club last January and has made 40 appearances, scoring 9 times.

"We would like to thank Zak for his efforts while with the club and with him all the best for the rest of the season."
