Liam Fox has left Dundee United.

The Tannadice manager has departed his role with the club sitting bottom of the Premiership.

The Tangerines have confirmed that the 39-year-old leaves by mutual consent, with the club now on the lookout for a new boss for the season run in.

A short statement reads: "Dundee United can tonight confirm we have parted company with Liam Fox who leaves his role as head coach by mutual agreement.

"The board would like to thank Liam for all his efforts and professionalism during his time as assistant head coach last season and this season during his tenure as head coach.

"An announcement as to a new head coach will be made in the near future and we will make no further statement at this time."

Fox lasted just five-months in the role following the departure of Jack Ross.

He took interim charge of the team following Ross' exit from the club in the opening month of the season.

After impressing Mark Ogren and Tony Asghar, Fox was promoted from within and was officially given the title of head coach.

Things have not gone to plan for United, though. A few positive results aside after the World Cup break, the Arabs have been disappointing in that time.

They're rooted to the bottom of the table, which would result in automatic relegation to the Championship should they finish there come the end of the season.

Kilmarnock are four points ahead in eleventh, while Ross County sit above Killie only on goal difference. Motherwell are in ninth, seven points ahead of United.

United have acted with a few months left of the season to turn round their fortunes. They do also have a game in hand on their relegation rivals.

Yesterday's embarrassing 4-0 defeat at the hands of Ross County spelled the end for Fox's time in the City of Discovery, though.
