Scott Arfield has revealed that he has ambitions to return to Rangers in a coaching capacity one day.

The ex-Canada international left the club upon the expiry of his contract after five years with his boyhood team.

The 34-year-old leaves a fans' favourite after helping to play a key role in getting Rangers back to the top table of European football, as well as delivering their 55th title success of course.

In a sitdown with Rangers TV at the club's training ground, the attacking midfielder spoke candidly about his time with the Light Blues and his plans for the future.

"It's been the best five years of my career, I've loved it," he admitted. "I just hope I'll be back in this building in some capacity in the future.

"I think I've got a lot to offer. Whether it's this side with the academy or the other side with the first team.

"If I go down the coaching route I think I've got a lot to give to people. Young kids who listen, I think I can put it across in a way that's relatable and modernised.

"I do think I've got a lot to give to these players. When I get there, I think that's what I want to do. I want to bring them through to the first team and give the fans something to shout about when they can see a young academy product really making a marker."

Arfield was then asked about his iconic salute celebration after scoring.

He declined the opportunity to explain the meaning behind it, but he did take the chance to take a friendly, cheeky swipe at teammate Fashion Sakala.

He said: "The story isn't actually that exciting, I just made it up to be exciting.

"The story doesn't even make sense to be fair. But it is iconic. When wee boys or girls see me they always do it. I've got two wee girls and they absolutely love it.

"Fashion Sakala says he's going to take the salute and carry it on, but I don't think that's true. He needs to get a game, doesn't he? And he needs to score more goals than that. So, if he scores more goals than me then he can keep it. But up until now it's only me and Darcheville."
