Lewis Ferguson is edging closer to making his long-awaited return to the pitch after a six-month injury lay-off.
The 25-year-old has been named in the squad for Bologna's upcoming Serie A match against Cagliari, scheduled for Tuesday, October 29.
Ferguson’s absence has been felt keenly by both his club and the Scotland national team.
Since suffering a serious knee injury against Monza on April 13, the midfielder has been working tirelessly to regain his fitness, and now, with his name back on the team sheet, hopes are high for a successful comeback.
The news comes as a bittersweet reminder for Ferguson, who missed the opportunity to represent Scotland at the Euro 2024 tournament in Germany this summer.
His absence from the national squad was a disappointment not only for him but also for fans who were eager to see him contribute on such a prestigious stage.
But Bologna are excited to have their captain back available and shared a poignant video of Ferguson reflecting on his lengthy rehabilitation journey.

Speaking on Bologna's social media channels, the former Aberdeen and Hamilton Academical star said: "It was a fantastic season, we were doing so well. I was playing good, I felt good and then there was one moment where my knee was unstable.
"I didn't feel good, I had too much pain and the doctors came to me and said it was the ACL and also the meniscus, and you're not going to play for six months. It all just fell apart for me. But this is football.
"After the operation, I can remember it was a Thursday night, I think the Europa League games were on, and I was asking myself questions. How was it possible to move like these guys? I had a little bit of fear after the operation.
"There has been a lot of change at the club in the summer. Of course, results haven't been what we wanted but I see a lot of good things and the fans can be proud of the team.
"I just want to return as strong as possible. I want to have the same feelings that I had last season when I played. This is the nature of a Scottish player I think. We have the desire, the will to win. This is just the Scottish mentality. You work hard and fight every day to become better."
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
