Craig Gordon

He must have made eight brilliant saves and then comes up with what was surely the worst mistake of his career. Gordon was outstanding until his moment of madness. He is a great shot-stopper but is not the best at other aspects. 7

Mikael Lustig

Captain on the night was down and looked literally out after taking a nasty knock on the head early on. The Swede carried on but didn’t last long. He should have gone off right away. Football needs to looks at this. 2

Filip Benkovic

Sloppy pass early on set the tone for a player who up until this had been superb. Salzburg were another level from what he’s faced so far. Improved as the game went on to his credit. 6

Jozo Simunovic

He couldn’t prise his back off the figurative wall and you always felt there was a mistake in him. He tried a chip out of defence on the edge of his own box which went a full three yards and right to a Salzburg player. 5

Kieran Tierney

A strangely quiet night. He was, as always, one of his side’s better performers but didn’t actually see a lot of the ball. Still, he was good under pressure and was one who at least could fine a man with a pass. 6

Callum McGregor

Had to move deeper and deeper, especially in the first-half, as he spent his time running, blocking and tackling. Moved to the right in the second-half but never saw a lot of the ball. 5

James Forrest

Cut an isolated figure on the right at times, however, when he did get a bit of space looked dangerous. A superb run at the end of the first-half took him past three Salzburg players. Moved up front and always hinted he could do something. 7

Ryan Christie

Injured himself while making a superb tackle. Right away, you could tell it was a bad one and the man in form was stretchered from the field. It was a horrible sight. 6

Tom Rogic

Perhaps his worst performance for the club. What a time to do it!

The Australian, such a talent, couldn't do the simple things never mind anything spectacular. It might be the case that not a single thing came off for him. Best forgotten about. 4

Scott Sinclair

At least he had a shot in the first-half, albeit it was well wide, but there were too many times when he had the ball taken off him. It’s still not happening for him and he was hooked at the break. 4

Odsonne Edouard

The youngster did a lot if work off the ball but had a difficult time holding onto possession. That’s not really his game. Had moments but he can be a bit selfish at times. Needs to lift his head and play a pass rather than trying a mazy dribble. 6

Substitutes

Kristoffer Ajer

For someone who hasn’t played a lot of football, the Norwegian did really well at right-back. Couldn’t be blamed for the performance. 6

Scott Brown

His first touch was an interception and a minute after he won the ball with a crunching tackle. Celtic were immediately better. Should he have started? Yes. 6

Olivier Ntcham

It was a difficult game to come into. Some nice moments and he scored the penalty with a second attempt. 6
