Jamie Murphy admits he wants to rekindle his love for football at Burton Albion after conceding the last 18-months at Rangers have been a ‘nightmare’.
The Scotland cap has been reunited with former Sheffield United boss Nigel Clough at the League One promotion hopefuls after sealing a loan deal for the rest of the season on Tuesday.
And the 30-year-old forward is desperate to get back playing regularly having been sidelined with a serious knee ligament injury he suffered in August 2018 and then being out of favour under Steven Gerrard at the Ibrox club.
Murphy, who only featured for a total of 53 minutes for Rangers during the first half off the campaign, said: “I want to get back enjoying my football again.
“It’s a been a nightmare time with my knee and not playing when I came back, so I am looking forward to getting out and helping the boys.
“It’s hard, you work hard and want to play at the end of the week so I’m thankful to Burton for giving me the chance to come down and play some football.”
Murphy is looking forward to working under Clough for a second time following a productive spell together at the Blades, where they reached both the FA Cup and League Cup semi-finals.
Murphy, who later played in the Premier League with Brighton, added: “Having worked with him before, I’ve had some of my greatest moments as a football player under him so it was an easy one for me to pick here.
“It was great, he did a lot for me in my career, he gave me a platform to go on and do some more things. I’m hoping I get the chance to play here and get back to that.”
