FANS travelling to Hampden this summer for EURO 2020 matches will be able to take advantage of a new state-of-the-art mobile ticketing system that will dispense with the need for a paper ticket.

UEFA will distribute more than one million tickets for the finals through a ticketing app that will be available for download towards the end of May on Android and iOS phones.

The Tartan Army are still waiting to discover whether they will be part of the finals this summer with a play-off series against Israel on March 26 and potentially either Serbia or Norway on March 31 to come but football fans already know that Croatia and the Czech Republic will play Group D matches in Glasgow with a further Round of 16 match to come on June 30.

The EURO 2020 mobile ticketing initiative will build on the UEFA Nations League finals in June for which more than 110,000 tickets were successfully delivered to mobile phones for the four matches.

It is anticipated that the app will prevent the replication and duplication of tickets following a demand for tickets totalling 28.3m from more than 200 countries around the world. To aid with security and help the smooth passage of fans at grounds, QR codes will only be activated by Bluetooth once they are close to the stadium.

Supporters will benefit also from an improved experience as they can easily transfer their tickets to their guests using the app’s transfer function, which will facilitate their entry into the stadium.

Supporters who purchase ‘Follow my team’ tickets will receive their mobile tickets only if their side has qualified for a specific match. The ability to deliver mobile tickets to fans close to matchday will considerably enhance the fan experience, as they will no longer be required to visit ticket collection points to exchange ticket vouchers.

Fans who purchased tickets during the December 2019 sales phase and later sales phases closer to the tournament will receive their tickets as mobile tickets via the mobile tickets app.

Once fans have downloaded their tickets, the only requirements are for them to have Bluetooth activated when approaching the stadium and to ensure their phones are fully charged.
