GLASGOW CLAN forward Brendan Connolly insists his side were unlucky not to take all six points at the weekend after they fell to an overtime defeat against the Guildford Flames.

Clan were looking to make it three wins on the bounce after Thursday’s 2-0 road win at MK Lightning and their emphatic 6-0 win away to the Sheffield Steelers on Saturday.

Pete Russell’s side went two up against the Flames as they returned to Braehead Arena on Sunday with goals from Guillaume Doucet and Connolly himself.

It wasn’t to be, however, as Flames hit back before going to clinch the overtime win to take the points and while Connolly admits Clan were not at their best, he insists they could have still made it a maximum-point weekend if they had a bit of luck on their side.

He said: “We were pretty solid. I don’t think we necessarily had our ‘A’ game off the bat but we got the early goal. I thought we played really strong in the second and third period. We have to give credit to them, they took advantage of some opportunities that we gave them and overtime was kind of a lucky goal.

“They’re a quality team, for sure. Their goaltender is really good and they have a lot of firepower up front but I thought for the most part we kept them at bay. We had the majority of the scoring chances but it was a good close game.

“It could have gone either way. There was momentum swings and each team was pressing - they just got the last goal.”
