GLASGOW WARRIORS have added to their front-row resources for next season by signing Alex Allan and Sila Puafisi on new contracts.
Loosehead Allan has signed a new two-year deal, while tighthead Puafisi has extended his contract by another season.
Earlier this month the Warriors signed 24-year-old tighthead Jarrod Firth on a two-and-a-half-year deal from ITM Cup side Counties Manukau in New Zealand.
Scotland international Allan will be staying in Glasgow until at least May 2018.
The 23-year-old joined the Warriors from Edinburgh Rugby in 2014 and has gone on to make 26 appearances for the club.
Allan, who has represented Scotland at all age-grades and ‘A’ level, made his full Scotland debut in the 24-6 win against the USA on the 2014 summer tour.
He was called into the Scotland training squad last month for the RBS 6 Nations.
Alex Allan said: “I’m really enjoying my rugby in Glasgow with the way we play. There’s a great set-up at the club and the atmosphere in the squad is good as well.
“Last year was a great first season, but I’m always looking to improve and I feel I can do that at the Warriors.
“Being named in the Scotland squad for the RBS 6 Nations was a huge honour and I want to build on that selection and try and get more caps.”
Tongan international Puafisi will be staying at Scotstoun until at least May 2017.
He joined the club last summer from Gloucester and has been ever present in the Warriors front-row this season, having racked up 12 appearances.
The 27-year-old has 20 caps for his country and played in the recent Rugby World Cup.
Sila Puafisi said: “I’ve settled well in Glasgow and was delighted to sign for another year at the Warriors.
“I’ve made some really good friends at the club and all the players look after me and keep me right. The set-up at the club is great and the standard of play is really high.
“My wife and son really enjoy life in Scotland, so I’m looking forward to the rest of the season to see what we can achieve as well as next year too."
Glasgow Warriors head coach Gregor Townsend said: “It's great news that both Alex and Sila will be staying with us next season.
"Alex has been working hard on his set-piece game to build on his outstanding ability in general play.
"He's had international recognition and is currently training with the Scotland squad and we believe he will continue to develop in our environment.
"Sila integrated so quickly after the Rugby World Cup it was if he’d been a Warrior for the past 10 years.
"His work-rate in training and in games is excellent, and he has been really solid at scrum time.
"Sila has played regularly for us this season and there is a lot more to come from him. I’m sure that he’ll be determined to improve further over the next 18 months.
“There is already good competition at tighthead and with Jarrod (Firth) coming in too it means we'll have a strong group for next season."
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
