JAMIE MURRAY has launched a withering attack on British tennis for failing to acknowledge his family’s undeniable sporting legacy.

There was , incredibly, not a single mention of the Murray brothers or mother Judy’s sterling work as a coach in a new, 36-page document detailing the Lawn Tennis Association’s grand new vision for the future which was released last week.

When Andy, one of Great Britain’s greatest ever sportsmen, announced his retirement plans at the Australian Open earlier this year he criticised the LTA for failing to build on his legacy.

Doubles player Jamie, himself a multiple major winner, can barely believe their latest botched attempt to drum up interest while participations level continue to fall.

Murray , speaking at the Miami Open, said:”I don't know what their goal is, but I do know that it's important to have role models for kids to look up to and aspire to be.

“I would assume that Andy certainly is a pretty big role model in this country, not just for tennis but across all sport.

“So it seems like an interesting decision not to showcase the one shining light in British tennis.”

The younger Murray was particularly angry that only TWO indoor courts in Scotland had been built between 2006 and 2016 - a period of time when his sensational rise to the top of world tennis was there for all to see.
Tennis Scotland receive their funding from the LTA and around £15 million has been committed to help build more facilities in Murray’s homeland.

Jamie added:”Whoever is to blame for the situation in Scotland, particularly for not capitalising on the interest levels in tennis that we have been able to create for the last 10 years or whatever, it's f****** annoying.

“It really is annoying. Who knows what's going to happen with Andy?

“If he stops playing tomorrow, then it feels like a completely wasted opportunity. But maybe the people that were in charge in Scottish tennis could have been doing a lot more in recent years.

“It's frustrating but that's just the environment that we are in unfortunately.”

Judy is in the process of trying to raise funding for her Park of Keir tennis and golf center but handouts from the LTA aren’t guaranteed.

The elder Murray said:”I would hope that the LTA would want to get behind that (Murray legacy).

“It's frustrating to continue talking about it. You feel if you say the wrong thing then you are getting emails and stuff from people saying, this is stopping kids growing the game.

“And you are like, well what are you talking about?

“My mum knows what she is doing. Everybody involved in tennis in our country knows that she knows what she is doing. She knows how to get kids into tennis, how to develop kids to give them the skills that they need to go further in tennis and create opportunities in a fun environment.

“If I was the person involved in handing out money and building centres, I would be investing in her because I know that she will create good things and she'll make things happen because she is a doer and she cares.

“I hope she gets her Park of Keir development built, I hope they get the investment for that. I know that great things will happen for the community.

“And with Andy , you've got one of Britain's greatest ever sportspeople who has done incredible things in your sport. I think that he is a great role model for kids in the UK and it's a way to inspire people to pick up a racket and go play tennis.”
