Glasgow's subway has re-opened after a fault caused both lines to close for hours on Monday morning.

Commuters faced lengthy delays today after SPT closed both lines on the Subway due to a fault.

Both the inner and outer circles of the Glasgow subway were suspended  due to a 'major' signal fault, which meant it was unsafe to run the trains.

SPT confirmed through the Glasgow Subway social media pages, that the issue had been ongoing since 9:45 am while apologising for the disruption.

However, they said both routes would be back up and running as soon as possible.

A spokesperson said: "Apologies all, both Circles are currently suspended due to a signalling failure. We are working to get everything all up and running again ASAP. Update to follow. Apologies for the inconvenience."

Now, the tube operator has announced that both lines are active again, after engineers managed to resolve the issue.

An SPT spokesperson said: “Subway services are now running on both Inner and Outer Circles. It was suspended earlier today due to a major signalling failure which meant we were unable to runs trains safely in the system.

"Our engineering and maintenance teams were able to resolve the issue and the system is now back up and running. We apologise unreservedly to all passengers affected.”
