Stylish and edgy thriller stars Jake Gyllenhaal as Louis Bloom, an LA loner and petty criminal who decides to become a news photographer, joining the nocturnal freelancers who descend on crime scenes and accidents, selling their gory material to the late-night news. Despite his eager-to-please persona, Bloom has a dark streak that leads him to cross the line between capturing the news and creating it.

Daniel Radcliffe continues his progression away from Harry Potter towards more adult fare, as a small-town DJ accused of murdering his girlfriend. As he struggles to clear his name, the lad sprouts ram-like horns that not only suggest his guilt, but compel everyone around him to give in to their innermost desires. The film works best when it plays for laughs. But as a love story, whodunit and fable, it fails to deliver.
