UNLIKE secret agents, spy stories show no danger of being out in the cold.

One of the most popular movie and novel genres is celebrated in Edinburgh Spy Week, from April 6-12. Organised by the English Literature department at Edinburgh University, Spy Week includes special screenings at the Filmhouse of The Lady Vanishes, Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, and other classics. There is also a quiz at Blackwell's bookshop; a seminar on John Buchan at the National Library of Scotland; and, highlight of the week on April 11, a lecture by Dame Stella Rimington, former MI5 chief turned novelist, on Espionage in Fact and Fiction. Events are free but ticketed. Visit www.spyweek.llc.ed.ac.uk
