Her trio's arrangements certainly put songs by Soft Cell, Fine Young Cannibals, Blur et al into a jazz context but McGregor's singing leans more towards the operatic and European art song schools than the Ella, Billie and Sarah trinity. Where she does score, though, is in her comic interpretations. Salt-n-Pepa's Push It, Prodigy's Firestarter and Britney Spears's Oops I Did It Again, complete with speeded-up vocal a la Dolly Parton, all provide genuinely funny moments and McGregor's self-deprecating introductions add to the entertainment value.
