n The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland has launched its new short courses programme, aiming to increase participation in a wide range of performance and production arts areas. The courses are designed for all ages and stages of development, with opportunities for both lifelong learners and on-going professional development. New additions this year include Modern Ballet and RAD ballet syllabus classes for juniors.

n Oran Mor has launched a special Channel4/Oran Mor Comedy Drama Award. The award is open to all writers resident in the UK and the winner will take home a £5000 prize. The winning entry will be decided by a panel of judges drawn from Oran Mor and Channel 4 and will be given its stage premiere in March 2013 under the A Play A Pie and A Pint banner during the Glasgow International Comedy Festival. David MacLennan, producer of A Play A Pie and A Pint, said: "I am particularly pleased to have the support of Channel 4 for this exciting award. It will provoke a tremendous response from playwrights, both new and established, and will expose new talent to the theatre-going public, and potentially in the future a television audience." Closing date for entries is October 1.
