Proclaimers take the lead

Next summer's Belladrum Festival, which is held near Beauly in Inverness-shire, has announced its first headline act. The Proclaimers will play the festival's enhanced Thursday night slot on August 6. Craig and Charlie Reid last played Belladrum in 2005 and, in the decade since, have seen their music reach new audiences via the stage musical Sunshine On Leith and its film adaptation.

Other acts for the Friday and Saturday line-up will be announced next spring. Fans should note, however, that in order to see The Proclaimers, a three-day ticket is required, as the standard weekend ticket does not give access to the main stage on Thursday night. Tickets, including camping options, are available from the festival's own website and from www.skiddle.com.

Classic visit for Garioch

Drummer Ken Mathieson's Classic Jazz Orchestra has a concert on Friday, November 28, at Garioch Jazz Club in Inverurie, the last gig of the year before the orchestra members take their seats in various Christmas theatre productions.

Garioch Jazz Club, which meets in the Aberdeenshire town's Hopeville Social Club, has strong claims as Scotland's oldest jazz club, having formed in 1983, and this visit by the orchestra, its first in several years, has been made possible by the Creative Scotland/National Lottery Touring Award.
