Does the humble EP still have a part to play in a world where some music fans are only interested in the completeness of an album, others in track-by-track downloads?

For folk singer Heidi Talbot, the My Sister The Moon EP is an opportunity to test out not only newsongs but a new label (Under One Sky Records, named after her partner and producer John McCusker's multi-talent project from a few years back).

There's a fine array of collaborators here too, from Celtic Connections/Transatlantic Sessions stalwarts such as the aforementioned McCusker on fiddle and Michael McGoldrick on flute and whistles, to backing vocalists including Julie Fowlis, King Creosote and Louis Abbott of Admiral Fallow.

It's Talbot's utterly beguiling, crystal-clear voice that transcends them all, of course, and if the EP's beautiful title track (written by Boo Hewerdine) is anything to go by, the Irish singer's forthcoming Angels Without Wings album could be her strongest yet. There's a nice pacing to this five song set, particularly the cheeky wee lilt that rocks the rhythm of Will I Ever Get To Sleep?
