Living their lives on camera has paid off for Steps as their tour sold out arenas across the UK and they've announced further Scottish gigs at Braehead and Hamilton with Peter Andre.

By laying their lives bare about the band's break-up, the reunion is all the more interesting: all eyes are on Claire as through her various TV shows, her insecurities and self-consciousness have heightened.

These feelings wouldn't have been helped on Friday night by the fact the set let her down. Emerging from a locked vault, the band were to rise up from vacuum-like tubes – and Claire's didn't budge. She entered from the side of the stage and it probably took a while for her to get into her stride.

Here And Now kicked off proceedings, then Deeper Shade Of Blue provided their campest anthem. Last Thing On My Mind and Better Best Forgotten were treated like a dance game with audience participation while Summer of Love segued into a mash-up section including Kylie's Better The Devil You Know with Lady Gaga's Judas.

The solo section was a highlight with Lee doing a sexed-up Moves Like Jagger with a sprinkling of Rihanna's S&M. Faye performed One Night Only on a platform Priscilla shoe. Bizarrely, H chose Glee classic Don't Stop Believing, perhaps the only person who'd happily sing a duet alone. Lisa gave a nice vocal performance but Claire's song stole the show – if only she looked liked she knew it.

Naff? Dated? Good fun? Check, check, check. Who knows how long the reunion will last but it's got some mileage – for this year, at least.
