Illyria sets sail again
UK outdoor operatic touring company Illyria will return to Duff House in Banff, Aberdeenshire, on August 23 following a successful performance last year. The company will stage the show HMS Pinafore by Gilbert and Sullivan. The comic opera will be performed by a reduced cast on a nautical set.

Brave the outdoors
The Royal Botanic Gardens in Edinburgh will host an event linked to the Pixar film Brave on August 19. The outdoors event for children will include activities such as archery, tree trails and storytelling sessions.

Treats in store
Fashion brand Anthropologie on George Street in Edinburgh will host live music events this month. Folk duo Misty Pop will play this Saturday, followed by the Nonet Ensemble with Le Salon du Jazz Refuse on August 25. On August 18, the store will host an afternoon of children's storytelling and face-painting.

Passing the baton
The BBC Symphony Orchestra has announced that Semyon Bychkovn will join their roster of conductors with a position created especially for him by the Orchestra. He has been given the title of the Gunter Wand Conducting Chair.
