Singer Bannon returns to city for jazz session
LORNA Bannon, the Dundee-born singer who went on to have success with jazz-funk band Shakatak and sing on sessions with Darryl Hall and Elton John, among many others, returns to her home city as August's guest at the Sunday lunchtime jazz sessions at Clark's Bar. The sessions run weekly, with a pool of local players delivering a programme of popular jazz standards and fusion classics, and Bannon will be featuring some of her favourite ballads on August 31. It begins at 1.30pm.

Mango album is remixed
JO Mango's acclaimed 2012 album Murmuration has had the remix treatment for a special release on Cassette Store Day on September 27 via Glasgow label Olive Grove Records. A full digital release of the set, entitled Transformuration, will follow on October 13. All 10 tracks on the original album have had the transformation treatment with its original producer Adem tackling Cordelia and Australian Ben TD making a mostly instrumental version of Blue Dawn Light. Other contributors include musicians from SAY Award-nominated Conquering Animal Sound and Gordon Skene, aka Fraction Man and formerly of Frightened Rabbit.

Two virtuoisi play together
TWO virtuosi on their instruments, bassist Edgar Meyer and mandolinist Chris Thile, come together on a new Nonesuch album, transparently entitled Bass & Mandolin, out on September 29. Meyer and Thile began playing together 15 years ago, and began performing live as a duo in 2003, making their recording debut as a duo with 2008's equally honestly-named Edgar Meyer & Chris Thile. Thile's recent solo album, following a career of acclaim with Nickel Creek and the Punch Brothers, was produced by Meyer, and showcased in a memorable concert at Edinburgh's Queen's Hall.
