BBC 2 had the return of a Victorian-era crime drama to try to fill the Olympic-sized hole in everyone’s evenings.

Ripper Street is set in Whitechapel in the East End of London in the 19th century, after the infamous Jack the Ripper murders.

Starring Matthew Macfadyen, Jerome Flynn, and Adam Rothenberg, it’s now into it’s fourth series…and there’s a new face in the cast. One that a lot of people on Twitter recognised…

Yep, that is Matthew Lewis (you know, as in Neville Longbottom from Harry Potter…obvs).

People on Twitter were more than a little excited about the actor’s new role in the period drama.

The rather spectacular moustache Matthew has for the role of Sergeant Sam Drummond definitely didn’t go unnoticed.

TBH, a lot of people were just very excited about the return of Ripper Street in general.

However, it seems some people on Twitter were still just thinking about the Olympics…
