Andy Serkis has presented footage from War For The Planet Of The Apes at New York Comic Con after the first teaser for the film was released.

The British actor, who plays head ape Caesar in the movie series, joined director Matt Reeves and producer Dylan Clark as they unveiled a scene from the upcoming blockbuster.

The unfinished clip, which at times featured Andy in his motion-capture outfit and included raw animation, showed Caesar leading a group of gun-wielding apes into a human compound where they discover a seemingly mute girl.

The audience at Manhattan’s Regal E-Walk Theatre were also treated to a short featurette about the making of the movie, the first full trailer which is yet to be released and a teaser which was posted online on Thursday.

In the 30-second clip, a shadowy Caesar stands motionless in a snowstorm, before he announces: “You must go… before the fighting begins… I am sorry… War has begun.”

The new film, set to be released in July 2017, is the third instalment in the rebooted franchise, following 2011′s Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes and 2014′s Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes,

Andy stars opposite Woody Harrelson, who plays the film’s villain, a human called The Colonel.

Director Matt said Caesar was haunted by the death of his former friend Koba from the previous film, while praising Andy’s performance in the lead role, saying the actor “deserves an Academy Award”.

New York Comic Con runs until Sunday.
