THE Scottish Design Galleries within the new V&A Museum of Design Dundee will be designed by ZMMA, an international practice specialising in museums and arts projects.
The galleries will present the "largely untold story of Scotland’s outstanding design achievements bringing together in one place the V&A collections with loans from other collections in Scotland and beyond", it has been announced.
ZMMA has made work at museums such as Royal Observatory Greenwich, the National Railway Museum, the National Museum of Scotland and the Victoria & Albert Museum’s Europe 1600-1815 which opened in December 2015.
V&A Dundee’s curators have short-listed around 300 objects for inclusion in the Scottish Design Galleries. They range from intricate 18th century metalwork linked to Carron Iron and Co in Falkirk to catwalk fashion using traditional Harris Tweed and the latest in digital design. ZMMA will work with the V&A Dundee team to design the galleries over the next year.

A PROJECT that asked people to choose their favourite buildings in the Western Isles has announced its results.
Photographer and former drummer with punk band Buzzcocks John Maher has been documenting the shortlisted architecture for the project.
Over 500 people voted in the project organised by An Lanntair, The Western Isles Architects Group and the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland. The winners are The Boatman's Tower, Stornoway Isle of Lewis, Nicolson Institute Clock Tower, Stornoway, Isle of Lewis and Store Girnal, Rodel, Isle of Harris. A schools projects with workshops and talks is planned and lighting installations and a series of community events will take place in March 2017.
Neil Baxter of the RIAS said: “Scotland’s remarkable geography is matched by a rich heritage of superb historic buildings which strongly resonate a sense of place. The fact that local people have been so much involved in this brilliant initiative demonstrates the keen interest in our built environment.
"The Festival of Architecture 2016 has been truly Scotland wide – it has galvanised communities the length and breadth of the land. John Maher, truly a 'man o’pairts’ has produced a series of powerfully evocative images."

THEATRE Cryptic and Sistema Scotland will present an evening of live music from Big Noise Govanhill, performed underneath Kathy Hinde’s sonic and light installation at Kingarth Lane, next to Govanhill Baths in Glasgow on November 8.
The young musicians from Big Noise Govanhill will take part in a workshop with composer and visual artist Kathy Hinde and, as night falls, Big Noise A Orchestra will play and sing some of their most recent pieces under a magical canopy of animated origami birds.
It is part of the Year of Innovation, Architecture and Design 2016 celebrations.
To date, Cryptic has presented 130 productions (including 34 world premières), which have been seen in 25 countries worldwide.
