Tell us about your Fringe show
Diary of a Dating Addict is a semi-autobiographical show about a woman approaching thirty who goes online to find the man of her dreams in a whirlwind year of dating, mating and hating. I play all the characters, including my dates, in this audacious comedy show about a strong, independent woman trying to find ‘Mr Right’ but refusing to settle for ‘Mr You’ll Do’.
Best thing about the Fringe?
I like to think of the Fringe as an abusive relationship, it hurts and at times you hate it but you know it only treats you that way because it adores you… and it probably won’t do it again. With that in mind, the best thing about the Fringe is the love you get from audiences enjoying your show.
Worst thing about the Fringe?
The unexplained bruises.
How many years have you been coming to the Fringe?
This will be my second Fringe.
Favourite Fringe venue?
Got to be the Gilded Balloon in’t it?
Best Fringe memory?
In my debut year a dapper French gent insisted on coming to my last show but it had sold out (humble brag) so he said he’d left something at the box office for me. After the show I checked it out and it was a diamond necklace, I kid you not. I’m hoping for bigger and better this year. Ps, I’m more a cat person than a dog person, I take a size 7 shoe and I don’t have a car.
Best heckle?
I’m not sure you can call this a heckle as such but, as many Fringe performers know, it’s a struggle at the beginning and on my second show a poor man’s Father Christmas came in and sat front row, six minutes in he fell asleep. Unfortunately this man snored like an annihilated warthog. That was a tough show.
Craziest on stage experience?
I’ve actually been ok so far, I hope I haven’t just cursed myself.
What’s on your rider?
If/when I have a rider it will be very humble: couple of bottles of sparkling water, some Lindt chocolates, maybe some freshly cut red roses from Ecuador.
How do you wind down after a show?
I recently did a half-marathon and I’m kinda hooked, running is my meditation so I think it’s a great wind-down after a show. That or wine; let’s be realistic, wine.
What do you love about Scotland?
The wit, I think Scotland is home to some of the finest comedians: Doon Mackichan, Susan Calman, Kevin Bridges.
What do you like about Edinburgh?
The castle, the wee sandwich shop on Nicholson Street and The Meadows.
What’s the most Scottish thing you’ve done?
I ate haggis once… and I liked it.
What kind of jokes do a Scottish crowd seem to respond to?
Any David Cameron insults.
Favourite joke?
David Cameron.
