Tom Stade discusses life lessons and tells us about being a Fringe veteran

Tell us about your Fringe show

The show is called "You're Welcome" and It's a culmination of all the funny things I thought over the past year...If there is a theme or anything that people might think that I have a message to give them on life...it's purely by accident...but then again most of my life lessons happen by accident...The only thing I have to give The Stadinese Army is laughter...

Best thing about the Fringe?

Because I live in Edinburgh The Fringe on my doorstep which means I get to sleep in my own bed for a month, I don't have to order food because I have it in my fridge and I get to reacquaint myself with my dog Lilly...life looking good!

Worst thing about the Fringe?

Parking definitely parking!!

How many years have you been coming to the Fringe?

I think it's at least 10 years...70 in dog years...time sure does fly if you're a dog!

Favourite Fringe venue?

The assembly ballroom on George Street this will be my third year there and it's such a good venue...it's just big enough that it feels like a big deal...and yet it's got such a intimate feel to it.

Best Fringe memory?

To pin down a best Fringe memory is hard for any of my fellow artist...I think the Edinburgh Fringe is kind of like Woodstock...if you can remember it you weren't really there

.

Best heckle?

One time I was talking to one of my fans who had come to see me so many times he felt like he knew me and I should have known him ...when I couldn't figure out his name he stood up and said..."Really Tom for Christ sake I can't talk to you when you're like this and then walked off"...and just when I thought it was over he came back and gave me a beer and said "Now maybe you'll remember me"...god I wish I could remember his name...

Craziest on stage experience?

I don't do crazy experiences. I am the crazy experience!

What’s on your rider?

I'm sorry you must have mistaken me for a pretentious douche bag...I don't do riders I bring my own drinks.

How do you wind down after a show?

Don't need to... I'm not an extreme personality...I don't get high and I don't get low...I just stay cool all the time...I think I might be a Taoist.

What do you love about Scotland?

That one of it's major imports to the rest of the world is kick ass whiskey...and man skirts...sounds like a country looking for a good time.

What do you like about Edinburgh?

Everything...that's why I made it my home!

What’s the most Scottish thing you’ve done?

Actually I know this one, and everyone was super impressed - I'm a big fan of soup...I actually made a soup called cock-a-leekie from scratch and it was delicious ...bam! Eat that Scotland!

What kind of jokes do a Scottish crowd seem to respond to?

Jokes done by super funny people...yours truly included.

Favourite joke?

Well it's a little johnny joke where his dad goes to fight in Vietnam...and the punchline is "don't f#*k with my dad when he's been drinking."
