Sophie Pelham discusses the West Country, sausage rolls and English jokes.

Tell us about your Fringe show

Country Files is a satirical and joyful look at the eccentricity of England’s green and not so pleasant land through the inhabitants of one small West Country Village. Picture the Archers on steroids directed by the League of Gentlemen.

Best thing about the Fringe?

Getting to perform my show for a month and watch some of the weird and wonderful shows from all over the world.

Worst things about the Fringe?

Flyering in the rain

How many years have you been coming to the Fringe?

12 years

Favourite Fringe venue?

Pleasance Courtyard. I love the atmosphere in the courtyard and there are always amazing shows to see.

Best Fringe memory?

Dancing on the Tables with the flight of the concord boys in the Pod Deco way back in 2004.

Craziest on stage experience?

Choking on a sausage roll whilst dressed as an Old man thinking I was going to die because everyone thought it was part of the show and all I could think was ‘If I die I am going to end up as a punch line to a joke for eternity” Lucky my tech got up and slapped me on the back and I lived to tell the tale!

What’s on your rider?

This is the Fringe... I wish I had one, I would settle for a dressing room and an airconned venue

How do you wind down after a show?

Glass of Wine in the Pleasance Courtyard

What do you love about Scotland?

The landscape. It is just so dramatic and wild.

What do you like about Edinburgh?

The People. They know how to have a good time even in the pissing rain.

What’s the most Scottish thing you’ve done?

Worn tartan and drunk Irnbru.

What kind of jokes do a Scottish crowd seem to respond to?

Jokes about the English.

Sophie Pelham will perform at The Cellar in Pleasance Courtyard on August 20-30.
