Tom Neenan discusses Ozzy Osborne and his rider...

Tell us about your Fringe show...

It’s a sci-fi epic set in the 1950’s about a young scientist Bernard Andromeda (played by me) who is summoned to work for a shady organisation set up by his father (played by me) and lead by a non nonsense government agent (played by me). I play all the parts.

Best thing about the Fringe?

Being able to see so many amazing shows in such a small area.

Worst thing about the Fringe?

The smallness of the area.

How many years have you been coming to the Fringe?

This will be my second solo show and my seventh fringe.

Favourite Fringe venue?

I have performed at the Pleasance for the last two years and absolutely love it. It feels great to be working at a venue with such an amazing reputation for finding new comedy.

Best Fringe memory?

Once on the Royal Mile I tried to flyer Sean Connery. He said: “I’m sorry I have to catch a plane”. Nish Kumar then immediately said: ‘I can’t believe we just met Roger Moore”.

Best heckle?

No heckle I have ever heard has been any good.

Craziest on stage experience?

Once I was performing with lots of bats. Someone threw Ozzy Osborne on stage. I thought it was a fake Ozzy Osborne so I bit it’s head off. It was the real one.

What’s on your rider?

I ask for a bowl of M&Ms, but only the red ones – because he’s the only one from the adverts that I actually like.

How do you wind down after a show?

I stand down wind.

What do you love about Scotland?

What DON’T I love about Scotland?

What do you like about Edinburgh?

What DON’T I like about Edinburgh.

What’s the most Scottish thing you’ve done?

Flyered Sean Connery on the Royal Mile – whilst eating shortbread. I didn’t mention that in the story before, but I was eating shortbread at the time.

What kind of jokes do a Scottish crowd seem to respond to?

I don’t know. I’m never sure who in my audience is Scottish and who isn’t. I’ll conduct a thorough analysis and get back to you…

… Jokes about cows.

Favourite joke?

Q: What’s UB40’s favourite type of nuclear bomb shelter?

A: Lead, lead lined.

Tom Neenan: The Andromeda Paradox is at Dome 10 - Pleasance Dome until 31st August.
