Naz Osmanoglu talks about his new show, Exposure.
1 Tell us about your Fringe show
It’s called 'Exposure' and its basically about me having a meltdown. I’m trying to be honest and not make anything up which is slightly unusual for me. As a result it’s a little spicy in places but also completely true.
2 Best thing about the Fringe?
The constant party
3 Worst thing about the Fringe?
The constant party
4 How many years have you been coming to the Fringe?
This will be my tenth year performing (11 if you count a year that I’d rather forget which involved wearing tights and some very bad acting).
5 Favourite Fringe venue?
I love Just The Tonic and the Pleasance Courtyard, and the Underbelly where I did my first stand-up hour. Also Bedlam theatre and The City Cafe's massive breakfast.
6 Best Fringe memory?
In 2005, my sketch group WitTank and I performed our first preview and it didn't completely suck like we thought it did and one of the troupe cried and then we all hugged. Another time we all drunk as much as possible in 20 minutes after a show. Both great memories.
7 Best heckle?
"WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS!?"
8 Craziest on stage experience?
Having entered with a Chinese dragon, I was surprised by a half naked band and a man in a monkey costume sweeping the stage. Also some eggs. I expected none of this.
9 What’s on your rider?
A mic, some water and a beer if possible.
10 How do you wind down after a show?
First I get changed as I will have sweated through everything. Then I get some fresh air and have a drink. Ideally after a gig I'd be outside naked with a gin and tonic.
11 What do you love about Scotland?
I love the wild countryside. Big fan of haggis. LOVE tartan.
12 What do you like about Edinburgh?
Even in the rain, it’s still beautiful and full of people flyering.
13 What’s the most Scottish thing you’ve done?
Cumulatively lived in Scotland for about a year or so, in one month intervals.
14 What kind of jokes do a Scottish crowd seem to respond to?
Funny ones.
15 Favourite joke?
"I told the traffic warden to go forth and multiply, though not exactly in those words" Woody Allen
16 Favourite Scottish food/drink?
I first tried oysters in Edinburgh and am now addicted to them. Also the first time I drank whisky and actually enjoyed it involved a dram of Bunnahabhain.
Naz Osmanoglu: Exposure is on at Just the Tonic at The Mash House until August 28.
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
