Danny Boyle, the Scottish director of Trainspotting, has confirmed that the sequel is taking shape in an interview on Facebook page 'Humans of Edinburgh'.

The eagerly awaited Trainspotting 2 was not supposed to start filming until May 16th, according to a podcast with Irvine Welsh last month.

However Boyle, 59, said: "We're up in Scotland filming Trainspotting 2 just now."

Since Trainspotting, the director has worked on smash hit films Slumdog Millionaire and Steve Jobs, and he gushed about his passion for film. 

"I think what I love most about what I do is the variety, and being able to do something new every day. I get to meet such amazing people all the time. 

"I feel very fortunate and grateful to be able to make films, and to be able to always have a choice in what I do."

After returning to Edinburgh, he commented on the changes he has noticed since his last visit: "Coming back to Edinburgh has actually been really fascinating, since filming the first Trainspotting Edinburgh has changed dramatically.

"You can see the gentrification massively in the city."
